HOW TO OBTAIN A CONCEALED CARRY WEAPONS PERMIT IN CALIFORNIA
In the State of California, county sheriffs, local police departments, and other municipal authorities are authorized to issue CCW permits.
Before getting started, read the requirements for obtaining a CCW permit as outlined by Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations.
QUALIFICATION SESSIONS
CCW Qualification courses must align with California Senate Bill 2 (SB2) and the relevant Penal Codes. To learn more about SB2, visit the California DOJ site.
SB2 mandates that all first-time CCW permit applicants complete a 16 hour session and that renewal permit applicants complete an 8 hour session. Both include seminar-style and live-fire segments.
Please note, live fire portions are not training courses -- they are qualification evaluations. You are responsible for knowing how to safely and confidently know how to operate your firearm. Safety & Competency training is available, but those courses are separate from the qualification sessions.
